RTJ connections

RTJ connections

Problem Description

RTJ sealing connections - primarily in the pressure range from class 900 / PN63 - are susceptible to temperature changes if the sealing pressure is too low. Furthermore, many factors play a role in the tightness: difference in hardness between the sealing surface and the gasket, installation method, condition of the sealing surfaces, ...

Requirements for a re-equipment

  • Compensation of setting behaviour in the installation process
  • Maintenance of a minimum surface pressure after plastic deformation of the gasket
  • no visible leakage until TA-Luft tightness
  • Lifetime minimum 6 to 12 years

Solution

  • Calculation of the optimized installation screw forces and the setting behavior
  • Use of additional springs when there is a risk of high power drop during operation
  • Machining of suitable sealing surfaces
  • direct application of force to the seal

Design limits

  • Design pressure: up to class 2500 / 400 bar
  • Design temperature: up to approx. 900°C
  • Gasket diameter: up to size R105 / 1056 mm
  • Screw size: up to approx. M100 / 4inch
