Valves

Valves

Problem description

Problems with valves mainly occur in the area of the shaft sealing by stuffing box packings. These problems are intensified in the upper permissible temperature range of the packing and by frequent shaft movements.

Requirements for a re-equipment

Materials according to TA-Luft (please note current regulations)

Valves tested according to EN 15848

Lifetime >6 years or according to customer's requirement

Insensitivity to changes in operating conditions

Solutions

  • Selection of suitable packing materials
  • Calculation of the required and permissible sealing forces
  • Risk assessment for leakage based on the calculation results
  • Careful adjustment of the packing according to the installation instructions
  • Use of additional spring columns for elasticity and settling problems

Design limits

  • Design pressure: up to approx. 4000 bar
  • Design temperature: up to approx. 750°C
  • Packing diameter: inside diameter >=6 mm, outside diameter without restriction
  • Stuffing box screws: from M8 (5/16"), up to approx. M36 (1 1/2")
